Intelligent Mischief Zine: For Black Folks Who Have Considered Governance

Personal Reflection

Intelligent Mischief, a creative studio that I came across on Instagram a couple of years ago, has a vision that consistently impacts me… to unleash Black imagination to shape the future. Their work encourages me to expand my imagination without fear of reaching too far. Their zine, For Black Folks Who Have Considered Governance, has further provided me with the opportunity to reflect and engage in the space of “what if?”. Not only with myself but with others. Our imaginations are powerful and I’m inspired to produce art/media that intentionally encourages us to understand the necessity of stretching our imaginations. It’s a practice and this zine (in addition to much of their artwork) invites this practice for me. My hope is that you engage with it and reflect on the questions provided. Knowing that when you use your imagination, you’re in a space of abundance… and when you’re in that space, you’re in community and connecting on a spiritual level to many others across the world. How exciting!

Key Takeaway

“Sacred governance is the collective power to shift our systems from a practice of extraction from the land and our communities to the regeneration of life. From domination over some people and the Earth to interdependence amongst all beings. From scarcity of resources to abundance of resources available to all people. From violence against some people to love and protection of all people.”
